Couples THerapy - with Ariella Gery

Couples therapy will help your partnership become more resilient, creative, and adaptive. You will develop a greater awareness and understanding of the deep - and often invisible - mechanisms at play in the relationship, and this will help you gain insight into who you are as a couple, why you do what you do, and what you both really long for.

I feel passionately about guiding couples in transforming difficult or damaging relationships into sanctuaries for healing, growing and thriving.

We know from research that the quality of our relationships has a direct impact on our physical and psychological health. Secure, supportive and loving relationships can protect us from the adverse effects of stress, leading to improved mental and physical health. Conversely, dysfunctional relationships can be damaging to our health and wellbeing.

I am a certified PACT Couples Therapist (Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy), completing my training in the United States with Dr Stan Tatkin (Wired for Love). This model of couples work is informed by:

  • Attachment Theory – the biological drive to form relational bonds with others.

  • Neuroscience – the way the structure of the human brain impacts our behaviour.

  • Biology of Human Arousal – the way we cope with the various demands of life.

My work is guided by psychological research in the above areas. I am also a certified Gestalt therapist and I have completed a Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counselling with a focus on body-centred practices, including mindfulness; and the transpersonal, or soulful exploration. I use all of the above knowledge to work with the relationship system in a creative, nuanced, deep and holistic way.
